Veterans Top Shot Invitational to Support HIT’s Work

After a year away due to the pandemic, the Veterans Top Shot Invitational will make a triumphant return this Friday, May 21 at Bayberry Hills Golf Course in West Yarmouth.

Started in 2018, the event has combined fun – a golf tournament in the spring with a shooting tournament on September 11 at Cape Gun Works – with purpose, serving as a meaningful way for area businesses and the general public to give back to those who serve and have served our country.

Proceeds from the event go to benefit Heroes In Transition (HIT) as well as the Nicholas G. Xiarhos Memorial Foundation.

“We are grateful to everyone involved in the Top Shot Invitational for their commitment to giving back to our service members, veterans, and their families,” said Heroes In Transition Executive Director Nicole Spencer. “While it’s always an enjoyable event, the time, effort, and dedication required to organize the invitational is a reminder of how much our community understands the critical need to assist those we serve in making the successful transition from military service to civilian life.”

“We appreciate everything that Heroes In Transition does so much,” said CodComm Radio Group’s Bo Swayze, who sits on the Veterans Top Shot Invitational Committee. “We’re really excited about doing this. We really want to make this a special event for HIT and the Nicholas Xiarhos Foundation. And we want all the veterans who come out to play this Friday to have a special day.”

Swayze, who served in the Marines, sits on the committee with his CodComm colleague Tim Levesque as well as Cape Gun Works’ Toby Leary and Brendon Bricklin and Devadigm’s Shane Skinner.

The group has been busy the past few months signing up golfers for Friday’s scramble golf tournament as well as lining up sponsors, prizes, and giveaways. HIT has donated a round of golf for two foursomes of veterans who will compete in the tournament.

The morning will kick off with breakfast and players signing in at 8:30 am. There will be a ceremony to honor veterans at 9 am with the tournament starting at 9:30 am. Prizes will be awarded for top players and teams as well as longest drive and closest to the pin, among others.

There will be raffles, auctions, prizes, free giveaways as well as a Bloody Mary Bar sponsored by Quahog Republic Blood Mary Mix. An awards ceremony and food will follow the tournament at the golf club.

“It really is a special day and a fun way to honor our military and veterans while strengthening the work we do at HIT,” Spencer said. “Especially as we approach Memorial Day, it’s an event that serves as an important reminder of why we celebrate the holiday – to remember the individuals who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.”
