Heroes In Transition (HIT) is excited to announce Savannah Fabbio has joined its Board of Directors.
“Savannah has long been a supporter of our work, annually participating in our Ruck4HIT, and working to ensure that those we serve receive the help they need and deserve,” said Heroes In Transition Executive Director Nicole Spencer. “As the daughter of two retired service members, she understands the sacrifices made by our military and their families, and the importance of giving back to them.”
“I’ve known multiple people in my life who have gone overseas and have come back very different,” said Fabbio, whose parents Doreen and Kent Landry both served in the Marines. “Having an organization like Heroes, where they can work through what is going on in their heads or to help them adjust back to family life, is so important.”
Fabbio was first introduced to HIT when she participated in Anytime Fitness Falmouth’s 24-Hour Treadmill Relay which raised funds for the nonprofit’s work.
Last year, she stepped up her involvement by participating in her first Ruck4HIT, a grueling two-day relay race in which teams of 7 runners and two drivers pass through each town on Cape Cod. Each runner wears a 20- to 30-pound rucksack to symbolize the burdens our veterans and service members carry on behalf of our country. She will be participating in her second straight Ruck4HIT at the end of September when the race goes virtual.
She welcomed the opportunity to join the board to deepen her commitment to HIT. “I feel like doing the Ruck4HIT wasn’t enough,” she said. “I wanted to do more and get involved with their programs. Obviously, the Ruck is wonderful, but there will be a point when I can’t run and I want to be an ambassador for them in a different form.”
A graduate of Bourne High School, Fabbio received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Bridgewater State College. She has spent the past four years as a loan officer with Shamrock Home Loans. Prior to that, she served as the manager for The Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod’s Marstons Mills branch.
Fabbio, who lives in East Falmouth with her husband Jay, is heavily involved in the community. She volunteers as an instructor for Housing Assistance Corporation’s First-Time Homebuyers workshop; is a financial volunteer for WE CAN’s (Women’s Empowerment Through Cape Area Networking) financial empowerment one-on-one sessions; is a member of the Falmouth Elks; and is the Assistant Treasurer for the Falmouth Housing Trust’s Board of Directors. She also is the volunteer coordinator for the Mashpee Chamber of Commerce and sits on the Community and Member Engagement Group for the Cape Cod & Islands Association of REALTORS®.
