Fall Gala to Celebrate Impact of HIT’s Programs on Military Families

Since its inception, Heroes In Transition (HIT) has placed an emphasis on not only supporting service members and veterans, but their loved ones. And this November, the Mashpee-based nonprofit will highlight that aspect of its work at its 13th Annual Fall Gala.

Scheduled for Saturday, November 12 at The Coonamessett on Gifford Street in Falmouth, the theme of this year’s event is “We Are Family,” celebrating the impact that HIT’s programs have on families through deployments, frequent relocations, and emergencies that arise from military service.

“We often say that our staff, our board, our donors, our volunteers, our supporters, and those we serve are all one big family,” said HIT Executive Director Nicole Spencer. “This year’s Gala theme will focus on ways we take that compassionate approach to ensuring the entire military family unit has the support they need to overcome the unique challenges they face.”

HIT was formed following the death of Marine Captain Eric Jones, who was killed in a helicopter crash while flying a combat mission in Afghanistan in October 2009. His parents, Cyndy and the late Kenneth Jones, formed HIT as a way to honor their son’s life, service, and commitment to his fellow troops. HIT does this through 10 separate programs that include a Spring and Fall Couples Retreat; equine therapy for military families as well as veterans; PTSD service dogs; financial assistance; separate bimonthly outings for military families, military spouses, military couples, and veterans and service members; and Reboot, a program for female service members, veterans, and military spouses.

As event organizers prepare for this year’s Fall Gala, they are currently seeking volunteers and sponsors to ensure it is a success. They are also seeking items that can be auctioned off during the night. For more info on ways you can assist the Fall Gala, or email gala@heroesintransition.org.

“The Fall Gala raises critical funds that makes HIT’s work possible,” said Fall Gala Committee Co-Chair Sarah Daley. “The more funds that are raised, the more service members, veterans, and military families HIT can help. The success of the organization is dependent on events like this and the generosity of our community.”

This is the second straight year that Daley is co-chairing the event with fellow HIT Board Member Kristen Boyd.

Current sponsors for the Fall Gala are Asset Management Resources, Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office, Boyd & Boyd PC, Cape Cod Retractable, Cape Associates, the Law Office of Jane Sullivan, Chapman Funerals & Cremations, and The Valle Group as well as HIT’s Community Partners Cape Cod 5, Fairway Financial, and The Lobster Trap.
