Cape Cod Disc Golf Club Gives Back to Heroes In Transition

Michael Judin, who currently serves in the Coast Guard, organized last Saturday’s Veterans for Vets tournament in Middleboro for the Cape Cod Disc Golf Club.

Heavy rains couldn’t stop 53 people from throughout New England from participating in last Saturday’s Dynamic Discs Veterans for Vets tournament at Sunnymede Disc Golf Club in Middleboro.

Organized by Cape Cod Disc Golf Club, the tournament raised $800 for Heroes In Transition’s programs which give back to veterans, service members, and military families throughout the region.

The event was organized by Club Vice President Michael Judin of Marstons Mills, who has served the past 26 years in the Coast Guard. He was one of nine participants with ties to the military.

Originally from New Orleans, Michael has been stationed in Alaska, California, Louisiana, Tennessee, and currently Cape Cod.

Michael chose Heroes as the beneficiary of this weekend’s tournament because of its work, not only in assisting those who serve and have served, but in supporting their loved ones. “Seeing an organization like Heroes that recognizes the families and the contributions they make for service members is one of the things I keyed into,” Michael said. “Yes, I’ve served, but my wife and my kids have had to serve as well as far as me being deployed. My family has moved around to different schools and states which makes my job possible. Knowing your organization is taking care of family members as well is important.”

Jonny Taylor of Springfield lines up a shot in disc golf
Air Force veteran Jonny Taylor was one of nine participants in Saturday’s tournament who have either served or are serving our country.

This past weekend allowed him to play a sport he loves, all while giving back to a cause that is meaningful to him. “Disc golf is a great social sport,” he said. “I enjoy that it is outside and it is really inexpensive to play and it usually doesn’t take the time a round of golf would. You can play a round in an hour and a half, sometimes quicker, depending on who is playing.”

Michael and his wife DeAnna have two grown children, Joshua, who currently serves in the Army, and Kaytlen, who is married to a Marine.
